The Pearly Shells specalize in music from the Swing Jazz period of the 1940’s to late 50’s, the time of the Iconic Jazz Big bands of Ellington ,Basie and Frank Sinatra, the small combos of Nat King Cole, Louie Jordan and Ray Charles and the great jazz vocalists like Billie Holiday, Louie Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller and Peggy Lee.
You can hear some examples of this style of music on the 6 albums we have released over the last 10 years and find more material we play in the songlists provided below.
But that’s not all we do….
In the Pearly Shells we love to play a wide range of “Roots” based music including;
- 50’s Rock and Roll (Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly and Elvis)
- 60’s Soul and Funk ( Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Booker T, Wilson Picket, James Brown)
- Jump Electric Blues ( BB King, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Howling Wolf, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones)
Once people are on the dancefloor making requests we have been known to play everything from Johnny Cash to Johnny Rotten and Bob Marley to Bob Dylan to the Beatles and back!!
