I\u2019m guessing you are reading this page because you are looking for a band to play at\u00a0your wedding and you have seen us perform or heard about us or just stumbled in off the web. The Pearly Shells do a mighty fine line in weddings, if we say so ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last 10 years we have been asked to play at\u00a0100s of weddings and the\u00a0feedback\u00a0we get is overwhelmingly positive. Among musicians as in any\u00a0profession, there are plenty of people who are in it just\u00a0for the money, a singer in a suit with his chart book of jazz standards or eighties hits and a pick up band grinding thru the same set night after night.<\/p>\n<p>The Pearly Shells are not a\u00a0wedding\u00a0band, we are a band that also play weddings as part of our working week.\u00a0 We play in clubs and bars, festivals and dance halls, at big corporate bashes and benifits and backyard birthday barbys, you name it.\u00a0Providing music\u00a0 for celebrations is an age old part of the music profession and\u00a0 an equally important part of the job as writing songs and making\u00a0records.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2155 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thepearlyshells.com\/thepearlyshells\/wp-content\/uploads\/fewTricks-e1473228872790.png\" alt=\"fewTricks\" width=\"850\" height=\"133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepearlyshells.com\/thepearlyshells\/wp-content\/uploads\/fewTricks-e1473228872790.png 850w, https:\/\/thepearlyshells.com\/thepearlyshells\/wp-content\/uploads\/fewTricks-e1473228872790-300x47.png 300w, https:\/\/thepearlyshells.com\/thepearlyshells\/wp-content\/uploads\/fewTricks-e1473228872790-768x120.png 768w, https:\/\/thepearlyshells.com\/thepearlyshells\/wp-content\/uploads\/fewTricks-e1473228872790-700x110.png 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are a few tricks to playing a good wedding.<\/strong> There is always a wide range of ages , often different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, sometimes languages differences ,\u00a0definitely\u00a0different musical tastes and the whole lot has to be bought\u00a0together\u00a0as one because, as a wise old Aunty-of-the-bride once told me \u201c in the end everyone wants to dance and be part of the celebration\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In Pearly Shells, we have our own special musical soup we like to serve at weddings,\u00a0 a gumbo of Jazz and Pop and traditional musics, rock and roll , soul and funk that crosses over all the\u00a0boundaries\u00a0and brings people\u00a0together. Over many years of playing we have been\u00a0perfecting our recipe and testing it on the dancefloor, watching the room and remembering. We believe we have the music part of it down.<\/p>\n<p>And then you have to be able to read crowds, judging the mood of the moment.<br \/>\nAnd the volume\u00a0 has to be just right.<br \/>\nAnd the band has to have a good working relationship with the\u00a0management\u00a0and the staff.<br \/>\nAnd with the MC.<br \/>\nAnd you have to be able to musically\u00a0 guide people though any of the wedding traditions when required.<br \/>\nAnd importantly, the band must genuinely enjoy what they do!<\/p>\n<p>There is a trick to it.<br \/>\nIn 10 years time you\u00a0probably\u00a0won\u2019t remember much about the\u00a0entr\u00e9e or the flower\u00a0arrangements but you will remember if Uncle Dave made a great speech and you will remember\u00a0if\u00a0the band was good and everyone danced.
